My Winter overnight trip to the Mt. Washington Observatory - 2007 
I finally decided to sign up for a Mt. Washington EDU trip to the top of Mt.Washington this year. I picked the trip that started on February 22nd and ended on the 23rd.
We left the base of the mountain around 9:00 AM and arrived on the summit a couple of hours later. We received an orientation of the observatory as well and a review of the safety procedures up there. The day was beautiful with great visibility and winds that were only in the 40-50 MPH range. We were able to go on a hike and just enjoy all the beautiful views. We were hoping for a nice sunset; however the clouds did not cooperate. The first night the temperature stayed steady at about 15 F and the winds died down to under 5 MPH.
After a great dinner and some great company it was off to bed. We were awakened early morning with the notice that there should be a beautiful sunrise. We all got up quickly and put on our gear, much to out surprise, the temperatures were dropping and the wind was picking up. After we suited up and went outside we were greeted with a beautiful sunrise. After taking many pictures we all went inside for a nice breakfast. The WOKQ Morning Crew was joining us on this trip and was doing their live broadcast this morning.
Well after breakfast the temperatures were below zero and the wind was hurricane force, up to around 85 MPH. We all suited up and went up to the tower where the wind instruments were and then down to the observation deck to try to walk in this wind. That was interesting. Well, after quite a bit of playing in the wind we went inside for our classroom session with Michelle Day in regards to glaciers and also climate change. During the talk, the wind picked up some more and the temperatures kept dropping. We suited up and headed up to the tower again and also the observation deck. Winds were now up to 98.6 MPH. What a difference about 10 MPH makes. Almost everyone was knocked down at one time or another by the wind.Well, to sum it all up, it is time to go. We all packed up and took the Snow Cat back down the mountain. Below in slide show format are some pictures I took
